Celebrating Nurses and Nursing Centers: Close to our Hearts
We are excited to have two full weeks to recognize nurses and skilled nursing facilities throughout the country, and celebrate the impact they make every day! This begins with National Nurses’ Week, which runs from May 6th to the 12th, and is followed by National Skilled Nursing Care Week on May 13th through the 19th.
A national day of recognition for nurses in the United States was originally celebrated in 1954, the year marking the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to Crimea. President Reagan officially signed a proclamation in 1982 for May 6th to be “National Recognition Day for Nurses,” and later it was expanded to a week-long celebration with a permanent end date of May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Given the breadth of roles that individuals in the nursing profession hold, the American Nurses Association has announced a fitting theme for 2018, “Nurses: Inspire. Innovate. Influence.”
National Skilled Nursing Care Week, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, was established in 1967 by the American Health Care Association. This week-long celebration recognizes the crucial role of skilled nursing care centers throughout the country. The 2018 theme is “Celebrating Life’s Stories,” highlighting the relationships and shared experiences cultivated by staff, residents, and families in long term and post-acute care.
MedOptions is honored to employ and work alongside so many nurses and facilities that share our drive and passion to serve. We look forward to taking these upcoming opportunities to reflect on the contributions that nurses and skilled nursing centers make every day. Stay tuned for more posts and stories as we join the nation in celebrating!
