Orientation

MedOptions has a comprehensive orientation and mentoring process designed to help our new clinicians be successful. Each clinician is assigned a mentor who works with you one-on-one for a specified period of time. As you become more autonomous you will continue to be supported by your mentor, Clinical Director and colleagues. Every new clinician receives training on the following topics:

  • Overview of the MedOptions Clinical Model: how our clinicians collaborate together to provide medication management, behavioral therapies and neuro-cognitive evaluations.
  • Overview of the Aging Process: our clinicians are treating an older population that has behavioral issues in addition to normal aging conditions, medical co-morbidities and geriatric syndromes. We help you understand how these factors impact diagnosis and treatment.
  • Psychiatric Disorders of the Geriatric Population: the residents of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities have a variety of diagnoses including dementia, mood, psychotic, anxiety, personality and adjustment disorders, substance abuse, delirium, and others. We provide you with information regarding the most frequently occurring symptoms we manage.
  • Evaluation, Diagnosis and Treatment Options: clinicians are introduced to best practices regarding pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, depending on their discipline
  • Documentation and Coding: we will provide training on how to document your visits and the proper codes to use. Our Compliance Specialist will do periodic chart audits and give you feedback on your documentation and is available to answer questions.
  • Regulatory Issues: nursing homes have regulations and it’s valuable to know about these when practicing in a long-term care setting.
