The guiding philosophy of the Memory Center is to help individuals and their families live optimally with cognitive illnesses. Treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation. However, the unique benefits of the Memory Center extend beyond diagnosis. Our Memory Center provides active and ongoing care, support and education to our patients, their families and staff.
The Memory Center can benefit those who:
- have difficulty remembering recent conversations, appointments, specific occasions, or medications.
- misplace items such as keys, purses or wallets.
- have difficulty managing finances, balancing a checkbook, or paying bills.
- get lost or disoriented in familiar places.
- demonstrate difficultly driving.
- ask the same questions repeatedly.
- struggle with finding the “right” word.
For your convenience, evaluations are provided at assisted living, skilled nursing, and some outpatient locations.
Medicare and other insurers typically cover a substantial amount of the costs involved with the evaluation and treatment processes.
A physician's order is required for all evaluations.
The Evaluation Process
A psychologist will spend about two hours with the individual assessing his/her cognitive strengths and limitations. After the evaluation, the psychologist conducts a feedback session with the individual’s family. A copy of the written report will be given to the family, and can be made available to the primary care physician.
